The emotion of clutter

Bec and Julien were drowning in a sea of clutter. Their 1930s art deco apartment which was once their sanctuary had now become more of an assault course.

The 18 metre long hallway had become stacked high with dust-covered scuba gear, the kitchen was doubling as a home office and son Casper’s bedroom had become little more than a storeroom for his mountain of toys.

It wasn’t always like this. The young family’s lives changed dramatically when the next-door apartment block burnt down, and Julian suffered a heart attack, leaving them traumatised by the events.

“Trauma or loss can lead to clutter,”  says Space Invaders decluttering expert Peter Walsh, “The problem is that the clutter then becomes a reminder of those stressful events. So dealing with the clutter is often an emotional as well as physical challenge.”

How to reno a family apartment

With Peter helping Bec and Julien to sort through their mountain of clutter and release the emotions associated with the traumatic events of the past, Cherie Barber brought in a team of trusted tradies from hipages to renovate the space.

“Apartments are tricky for families, and you need to utilise the space to make every square metre count,” says Cherie

With her team of electricians, carpenters, painters and tilers, Cherie’s reno returned functionality to Bec and Julien’s home. Plus, it added $150,000 value to the property.

  • The kitchen is now the heart of the home it always should have been
  • The spare room has transformed into a home office where Julien can work instead of interrupting family life in the kitchen
  • Casper’s room has gone from a storage space to a functional kid’s bedroom he can call his own
  • The master bedroom’s cluttered and tired look is now freshened up with a shared storage space

Hallway tile flooring transformation

A feature of Julien and Bec’s art deco apartment is the long hallway running the length of the home. However it was a cluttered mess, poorly lit and with timber flooring that was worn out.

Working with professional tilers Cherie transformed the space with period tiles for a 1930s heritage feel. Plus they added dedicated storage space to keep the hallway clear and pendant lighting to complete the look.

Why you should work with professional tilers

When you’re doing a home reno, it can be tempting to DIY your tiling to save costs. Tiling can be challenging and a skilled tiler can help bring your renovation vision to life.

Here are just a few reasons why you should consider hiring a tiler for your renovation project.

1

Flawless finish

A professional tiler has the expertise and experience necessary to handle the complex and precise work involved in tiling.

Tiling requires careful measurement, precise cutting, and precise placement of each tile to ensure a flawless finish. A tiler can get the job done quickly, saving you time and money.

2

Built to last

When you’re doing a reno, you want it to look good. And so while you won’t have Cherie Barber on hand, you can rely on your tiler to help you select the right materials and design for your renovation project.

Tiles come in a wide range of materials, styles, and designs, and a professional tiler can help you choose the right ones to suit your needs and budget. They can also help you select grouts, adhesives, and other materials that will ensure your tiles look great and last for years to come.

3

Avoid costly mistakes

Tiling projects can often be complex and time-consuming, and a professional tiler can help you avoid costly mistakes or delays by ensuring that everything is done correctly from start to finish.

When you’re renovating your bathroom, kitchen, or any other room in your home, a well-done tiling job can help make your space look great and function well for years to come. It can also increase the value of your home by providing a durable and stylish surface that is easy to maintain and clean.

Whether you’re looking for an expert to help you select the right materials, ensure a flawless finish, or add value to your home, a professional tiler can help make your renovation vision a reality.
