Discover how the Space Invaders team cleared the clutter and transformed the kitchen and living area with a reno to reignite the heart of this family’s home.
Healthcare workers Nina and Dom have reached crisis point. Their heritage home where they raise their three children has become so inundated with clutter that the walls are closing in around them.
The last two years have been particularly challenging for this couple, who have done their best to keep the children happy but, with both of them facing life and death every day at work, the clutter and mess has continued to be something that they’ll deal with ‘later’.
So, it’s little wonder they have become disconnected from the chaos and clutter that has continued to grow around them.
Without a doubt this family has a challenge on their hands that the Space Invaders team can help pull them through to reconnect them with their home.
Dom and Nina love spending time with their three children and family comes first. While having things sorted is less important, the out of control clutter has left the kids feeling stressed and crowded out.
Normally the heart of any home, Dom and Nina’s kitchen is dark, cramped and outdated. It’s a kitchen that doesn’t work for a family of five.
The cabinets are at least 50 years old and, according to renovation expert Cherie Barber, the appliances look like they should be in a museum.
Plus, with a big partition wall, there is a disconnect between the kitchen and living room and the space feels really closed in.
With almost every space hidden under piles of clutter there is also no dedicated dining space for the family and they have resorted to eating their meals on a small picnic table in the living room.
With her reno team of hipages tradies, Cherie gets to work converting the kitchen and living room into one big space.
Working tirelessly in a short period of time, Cherie and her reno team have created an amazing new space for Dom, Nina and their kids to feel proud of.
The cluttered kitchen was desperately short of storage and bench space and decades old appliances meant it was crying out for a makeover. The new kitchen comes complete with two huge walls of storage, a long stone bench and a built-in dining table for family meals. It’s now a modern open space with a new pantry, cupboards and state of the art appliances to make meal prep a breeze.
Plus, by taking out the old sliding door and replacing it with French doors, the team further opened up the previously cramped space.
Motorised roller blinds were added to control the stream of sunlight coming through out of reach windows. A soft sage-green feature wall, and heritage splashback tiles completed the refreshed look while remaining true to the original style of this federation house.
In the living room they installed new air conditioning, modern electricals, moved the TV off the floor and mounted it on the wall, added a study desk, and brand new window furnishings.

All in all, in what was one the of biggest decluttering and renovation jobs the Space Invaders team have undertaken was a huge success. In fact:
Leaving Dom and Nina absolutely blown away.
